Core Skills Training Classes
Core Skills - Part 1 Class
The Core Skills - Part 1 class is a 3 hour lecture and hands-on training session that introduces beginning wildlife rehabilitation skills. This session will provide consistent training that can be used across all shifts. Included will be topics such as:
Overview of Lindsay rehabilitation policies
Health & Safety
Surrogate/food animal care (mouse colony and mealworms)
WRMD basics
Setting up PBs, Beginner Cages, and Flight Cages
Holding Room setups
Other enclosure setups
Making Diets
The class will be offered again in April! Dates and times To Be Determined
Session 1 Saturday, February 22, 2020 9 am - 12 pm Buckeye/ClassroomsSession 2 Saturday, February 29, 2020 9 am - 12 pm ManzanitaSession 3 You must take both sessions of the Wednesday evening class:Session 3a Wednesday, February 19, 2020 6:30 - 7:30 pm BuckeyeSession 3b Wednesday, February 26, 2020 6:30 - 8:30 pm Manzanita
You only need to attend one Session, but note that Session 3 is broken into two parts, both parts must be taken.
This class is open to new volunteers AND to volunteers that started over the past couple of years and did not take the previous Core Curriculum. Please use the sign-up form, available at the following link, to sign up for one of the sessions:
Some classes have limited capacity, you will be notified if your selection is filled. Please let us know if you cannot attend your session so we can offer the seat to someone on the waiting list.

Philosophy of Handling
Keeping Wild Animals Wild
Bird/Mammal Anatomy and Physiology - BASICS
Medical Terms and Abbreviations
WRMD Accessioning - BASICS
Patient problems needing attention
Introduction to Homecare
Syringes: Use and Cleaning
Charting
Feeding Baby Birds
The class will initially be offered in March: (Postponed due to COVID-19 closure)

4/5/18 Opossum Care: Natural history, clinic care, homecare for opossums, and information on the Opossum Homecare Team. Open to any Hospital volunteer.
4/12/18 Crow & Raven Care: Natural history, biology, clinic care, homecare for crows & ravens, and information on the Crow Team. Open to any Hospital volunteer.
12/9/18: Raptors of the Bay Area: An overview of the biology, behavior, and habitats of the diurnal hawks (buteo & accipiter), falcons, and eagles found locally. Also statistics and information on raptor rehab at Lindsay Wildlife Hospital. 4:00 - 6:00, Manzanita Room
12/18/18: Hummingbird Care: An overview of the care and feeding of hummingbird rehabilitation patients at Lindsay Wildlife Hospital and at satellite care (homecare) sites. 6:30 - 8:00, Buckeye Room.
4/23/19 Opossum Care: Natural history, clinic care, satellite care for opossums, and information on the Opossum Team. Open to any Hospital volunteer.
4/30/19 Raccoon Care: Natural history, clinic care, satellite care for raccoons, and information on the Raccoon Team. Open to any Hospital volunteer.
11/13/19 Rabbit & Hare Rehabilitation: Natural history, clinic care, satellite care for rabbits & hares, and information on the Rabbit & Hare Team. Open to any Hospital volunteer.
12/3/19 Bat Rehabilitation: Natural history, clinic care, satellite care for bats, and information on the Bat Team. Open to any Hospital volunteer.
12/12/19 Skunk Rehabilitation: Natural history, clinic care, satellite care for skunks, and information on the Skunk Team. Open to any Hospital volunteer.
4/1/20 Opossum Care: Natural history, clinic care, satellite care for opossums, and information on the Opossum Team. Open to any Lindsay volunteer. 6:30 - 8:00 pm Buckeye Room
