Rationale: When a teacher uses retrieval practices with students, it allows for the learning to "stick," it strengthens memory, improves understanding, and improves transfer of knowledge to new content.

Description: A learning strategy in which students retrieve information from memory. Common retrieval practices teachers use include think-pair-share, quick write, low stakes quiz, concept maps, bell work, and exit students to help recall information and improve long-term retention.
