Principle 3: DATA-INFORMED INSTRUCTIONAL PRACTICES
Differentiation
Rationale: When a teacher uses a choice board, they provide students the opportunity to make their own choices, which increases intrinsic motivation and therefore increases meaningful learning. Students are more likely to internalize content if a learning activity is interesting to them or if they can make a connection to their own life.
Description: A choice board gives students a menu of possible tasks to accomplish. This is a structured way to allow for student choice and incorporate high-interest content. A teacher can do this by providing a variety of meaningful tasks and the students can choose which task they would like to complete.
