PAPERS TEST MUST NOW BE SENT TO GENEVIEVE VARGAS FROM HERE ON OUT THIS YEAR IN PREPARATION OF A WIDA AUDIT.
Students who enroll at the beginning of the year must be screened within 20 regular school days from the first day of school.

QUICK START GUIDES:
Below is a chart that lists when each grade level should be given what test.
Go to CLD Testing Spreadsheet.
Go into AMS to enter students once you see their SASID in the testing spreadsheet (unless they are newcomers) into testing groups (enter them by state-given grade level).
Print students testing ticket.
Test the student.
Enter scores on the testing spreadsheet.
Make sure students are scheduled into a CLDE class (unless they score NE).
Don’t forget to chat with the student before the Screener.
Confirm their name is correct
Confirm that they have another language (speak or spoken in the home)
Explain why they are taking the test
Encourage them to do their best!
If it appears that they do not have any language or another language is not spoken in the home, please return the student and check in with us.
If by chance you have already screened the student and then realize they may not have another language background or if you have any questions, DO NOT ENTER SCORES into the testing spreadsheet. Call us!

The WIDA Screener is an English language proficiency assessment given to new students in Grades 1-12* to assist educators with the identification of students as English learners (ELs).
Can be given at any time of the year
Assessment form: Online or Paper Tests
4 Language Domains: Speaking, Writing, Listening, Reading
Includes 5 separate forms for each grade-level cluster: 1, 2-3, 4-5, 6-8, 9-12
Online Screener: Most students will be given the online test, unless they are newcomer or might have difficulty with technology.
Paper Screener: Newcomer students, students with significant needs, students new to technology or difficulty with technology should be given the paper test
Plan to securely store and dispose of test materials and documents at your school/district. Keep a copy of the WIDA Screener Score Report which can be printed from the Screener Calculator web page.
Based on guidance from CDE, every student that has another language or another language is present in the home, must be given the WIDA Screener (Kindergarten Semester 1st Grade – 12th Grade).
If a student has an identified disability, contact the Special Education case manager to discuss the best way to proceed. They may want to be present or lead the testing depending on the situation. Work together to determine what language domains can be tested and whether to do the paper or online test. If possible, attempt any or all domains.
If you are unable to test in any domains, document this on the CLD Testing Spreadsheet with “Unable to Test Due to Disability”.
Proceed with possible identification through informal evaluation methods such as observation, parent interview and teacher interview to determine how people communicate with him/her. Elicit information that:
describes his/her receptiveness to written language (reading domain) and spoken language ( listening domain),
describes how he/she communicates his needs and understanding (speaking and writing domains) through things such as electronic tools, eye movements, pointing, gestures, etc.
provides general comments about his/her level of interaction with English as appropriate for his/her disability.
From the informal evaluation, write up a brief summary of his/her language use and means of communicating in each of the four domains.
