QUOTE FROM ALESHA
"I SEE MY PATH, BUT I DON'T KNOW WHERE IT LEADS. NOT KNOWING WHERE I AM GOING
IS WHAT INSPIRES ME TO TRAVEL IT."
Throughout the different phases of my life, one idea has remained a constant source of guidance and inspiration: “Curiosity Wins.” I first inscribed those words on my college graduation cap, but their meaning has only deepened with time. Life rarely unfolds in a straight line, and there are moments when the direction ahead is anything but clear. Yet, I’ve learned that by welcoming the unknown and remaining open to new ideas and experiences, I continue to grow in ways I never anticipated. It’s this mindset that has helped me navigate uncertainty with purpose and resilience.
Stay curious, stay open to growth opportunities.

David Hrbek
Contributor
Accomplishments
Coach David Hrbek dedicated more than a decade of service to Warren County High School athletics, coaching football, basketball, track and field, and even stepping in for a season as the soccer coach. Known for his calm yet firm leadership, Coach Hrbek championed the development of strong character in student-athletes, always putting the person before the player. His coaching philosophy reflected a deep commitment to mentorship, accountability and long-lasting relationships. Whether picking up athletes for early-morning practices or making tough decisions for the long-term good of his players—such as keeping an undefeated freshman football team together—Coach Hrbek consistently led with integrity and heart. Among his achievements, his 1984–85 JV basketball team won the Northwestern JV District Championship. He also co-led the county’s Rec basketball program with Coach Jim Moose, creating an enduring positive outlet for local youth during both the school year and summer. Coach Hrbek was a loyal steward of the football program, mentoring players, welcoming new coaches and demonstrating professionalism in the face of adversity. After his departure in 1990, he served as a color commentator for WFTR sports broadcasts, continuing his impact off the field and court. Over 13 years, Coach Hrbek left a legacy not measured in wins and losses, but in the lives he influenced and the values he instilled. He believed that coaching was simply an extension of teaching, and that belief continues to echo in the halls and hearts of Warren County.

1963 WCHS Baseball Team
Accomplishments
The 1963 baseball team was one of the best teams in Warren County's History. At that time in Virginia, there were no VHSL playoffs, nor were there regional or state championships for baseball. The season consisted of a 10-game regular district schedule with a District championship playoff. The playoff would be the top teams from the district (North vs South) in a best two of three series for the championship. The 1976 team had a 10-0 perfect regular season. Led by their strong pitching duo of Joe Lauder and Yates Hall the Cats dominated District 10. Joe Lauder went 7-0 during the regular season with 2 shutouts. At the plate Alan Wimer led the team with a .441 batting average, followed by Yates Hall at .300. However, as many of the ‘63 members would say, there was no one standout. The wins came in a true team effort with different Wildcats delivering when needed. After the regular season, the Cats faced Turner Ashby in a best two-out-of-three series for the championship. In Game One, the Cats jumped out to a lead and never looked back, defeating Turner AShby 7-3. In Game Two, TA pushed the cats to extra innings, tying the game in the bottom of the 7th. Showing their characteristic team effort, the Cats scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 8th to win the game and secure the District 10 championship. This was the first team in Wildcat history to go 12-0 and win the District 10 title.
