JA Student Policy Goals

STUDENT POLICIES GOALS

The student is the focal point of all operations of a school system. This top priority is shared with no one.

Consequently, the School Committee can expect to spend much of its time in study, deliberation, and policy formulation on matters directly related to students.

The Committee and staff will work together to establish an environment conducive to the very best learning for each student through meeting the following goals regarding students:

To individualize the learning program in order to provide appropriately for each student according to his/her specific background, capabilities, learning styles, interests, and aspirations.
To protect and observe the legal rights of students.
To enhance the self-image of each student by helping him/her feel respected and worthy in a learning environment that provides positive encouragement through frequent success.
To provide an environment in which students can learn and practice personal and civic responsibility for their actions through meaningful experiences as school citizens.
To deal with students in matters of discipline in a just and constructive manner.
To provide in every way possible for the safety, health, and welfare of students.
To promote faithful attendance and good work.
All students regardless of race, color, sex, gender identity, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, disability or homelessness have equal access to general education programs and full range of any occupational/vocational education programs offered by the district.
