IHBF Home/Hospital Educational Services

HOME/HOSPITAL EDUCATIONAL SERVICES

The schools will furnish home/hospital educational services to those students who are unable to attend classes for fourteen or more school days related to a physical injury, medical situation, or a severe emotional problem.

To qualify for the program the student needs a written statement from a medical doctor requesting the home/hospital educational services, stating the reasons why, and estimating the time the student will be out of school. This statement needs to be sent to the Director of Student Services.

Home/hospital educational services are offered in basic elementary subjects and in secondary core subjects. Such services shall be provided with sufficient frequency to allow the student to continue his or her educational program, as long as such services do not interfere with the medical needs of the student. Certified teachers are assigned to home/hospital educational services by the Director of Student Services with the approval of the Superintendent.

Such educational services are not considered special education unless the student has been determined eligible for such services and the services include services on the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).
