IHBAA Observations of Special Education Programs

OBSERVATIONS OF SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS

The Wayland Public Schools shall, upon written request by a parent using the “Observation of Special Education Request Form,” provide access to the parent or parent-designated independent evaluators and educational consultants for observations of a child’s current program or any program proposed for the child. Observations shall be arranged, scheduled, and conducted in accordance with the Procedures for Observation of Special Education Programs on file at each school. Parents and/or their designees will be afforded access of sufficient duration and extent to enable them to evaluate a child’s performance in a current program and the ability of a proposed program to enable such child to make effective progress. The number, frequency, and duration of observation periods will be determined by the Director of Student Services on a case by case basis. The District may further specify conditions or restrict program observations when necessary to ensure the safety of children in the program, to protect the integrity of the program while under observation, or to protect children in the program from disclosure by an observer of confidential and personally identifiable information that might be obtained in the course of an observation by a parent or a designee.
