Participation Credit and Extensions
Participation Credit
Attendance is optional. Nevertheless, you receive Lecture Participation Credit, LPC, by completing online quizzes during the lecture. The LPC does not affect your course grade. Instead, you can spend it to "buy" extensions for homework assignments and projects.
During each lecture, the instructor will ask you to actively participate in the learning process by submitting responses to online quizzes. These quizzes are not assesment tools. They are learning activites.
You have unlimited submissions and can take as many attempts as you need.
You are encouraged to collaborate with other students.
You can ask the instructor or the TAs for help while you work on the quiz.
SSD students do not get extra time on these assignments due to the nature of the assignments. Please contact your instructor if you have any concerns about this policy.
This flowchart shows the process of calculating the Lecture Participation Credit (LPC) for a given student for a given lecture. Note the following important details:
For any quiz, the student receives 1 credit only if the answer is 100% correct and within the 5-minute window after the instructor opens the quiz. There is no partial credit for partial answers or late submissions. This is called Quiz Participation Credit, or QPC. The QPC for any given student is either 0 and 1.
The Lecture Partcipation Credit, LPC, is the sum of the all the QPCs divided by the number of quizzes on a given day. This means the LPC for any given student for any given lecture is a number between 0 and 1.
Your Total Participation Credit, TPC is the sum of all your LPCs.
Spending TPC
You can spend your points to get extensions on your assignments as a reward. You can use up to a maximum of 2 days' extension for any assignment if you can afford it. One day of extension on a
project costs 7 points
homework costs 4 points
