Today's field lesson included history, STEM, cooperative economics, and delicious flavors provided by Mother Nature. YIIP365 is looking forward to cultivating and growing our relationship with F.E.C. Keep your eyes open for future dates and collaborations with the Urban Farmer!
The Urban Farm teaches us to cultivate all arable land in our community! We learned to think outside of the pot and reimagine a street median, residential land easement, or your own backyard as a great garden location.
F.E.C. 's Urban Farmer provided a field lesson that included eating straight from the garden. YIIP teammates picked mustard greens and ate them raw from garden!
Good Soil is the foundation for plant life. Today we learned we must plant ourselves in soil not dirt! Dirt just covers the ground. SOIL has all the nutrients we need to grow!
Creating a self reliant and self sustaining community begins with saving and preparing for the future.
Preparing pineapples for smoothies for the team
We harvested kale from the Urban Farm, so we needed more pineapple for more smoothies!
We harvest together, we prepare together, and we always drink together!
Surprise Smiles after a shot of Beet Juice which is good for the liver.
This Mother's Day weekend we honor Mother Nature! Each child will learn to grow healthy delicious organic foods. We join the community farm food revolution led by Urban Farmer, Kelvin Williams. This month's field lesson will take us from seed to table. Each child will leave with a plant as a gift for their mom, grandmother, aunt, or "Shero Mentor"!
Mr. Kelvin Williams is a Houston native son raised in the city with a country heart! He has always understood developing a self-sustaining community is an act of courage and defiance against a system designed to keep us subordinate and dependent on that system. Through the simple revolutionary act of growing our own food we can reshape our neighborhoods, communities, and families. JOIN THE REVOLUTION & GROW WITH US!
In a neighborhood, what kind of food is available reflects the kind of development dollars it gets, and as urban areas grew, lower-income areas developed situations known as “food deserts:” neighborhoods with minimal to no access to grocery stores and farmer’s markets, leaving families options like fast food and sugary snacks from convenience stores.
Lack of access to fresh, healthy food has led to chronic health conditions, from physical suffering to dying disproportionately from diseases like heart disease, diabetes and other often preventable illnesses that are related to diet.
Join the Revolution and learn to cultivate your own destiny
In a world that’s ever more reliant on globalized commerce, growing our own food is a revolutionary act.
Every one of us has a right to clean water and real food: but collectively our society has forgotten how to provide this.
By meeting our own basic needs for survival, we create a foundation of freedom for ourselves and those around us.
Kelvin "The Urban Farmer" welcomes church groups, organizations, and volunteers of all ages to join the community garden revolution. The F.E.C. Urban Farm is located at 4314 Yale St, Houston, TX 77018-5735.
