To understand the world environment of today by investigating the events and people of the past
World History is a vibrant, but vast topic. So, our goal in this course is to focus on the rise of the modern world and the events that have left an impression on our society today. This course will not simply be one of memorizing facts and dates, but one that seeks to bring understanding about how the world works. By looking at our diverse history, we can then understand and apply this knowledge to today’s modern world. This course meets the district World History requirements for graduation (2 semesters, 10 Social Science Units) and the UC/CSU’s “a-g” requirement.

Understanding cause and effect through historical chronology
Investigating human motives and perspectives
Effectively use analytical skills of evaluation, persuasion, compare and contrast
Interpretation of primary and secondary documents
Ability to write in historical prose (paragraph arguments, document-based essays and historical narratives)
Ability to present (oral, technology and artistic) projects
Relate current events with historical events
District-provided Chromebook—fully charged (bring A/C adaptor, if necessary)

Students are considered on time if he/she is seated, ready to work with his/her Chromebook
Tardies will result in NIL points

The 3rd tardy may result in an after-school detention; another may be given with every two subsequent tardies
Come to class with a fully-charged Chromebook (chargers and extension cords provided along the walls; unreturned chargers/cords will result in delay in dismissal)
Start the Documented Response prompt listed in Google Classroom or on the screens
Chromebooks are for work purposes ONLY—students who are using electronic devices for off-task activities (e.g., watching videos, social communications, playing games, etc…) will be given a single warning and a message home to parents. A second and/or subsequent incident(s) will result in an after-school detention.
There is no bigger distraction today than the smartphone in the classroom. No cell phones or earphones unless directed by the teacher (see light) for educational activities. One warning may be issued. After school detentions will be given for each further violation.
Please remove all listening devices (e.g., Airpods, earbuds, headphones, earphones, etc…) when you enter class.
Hoods off heads; bags/backpacks must be removed from the desk and lap during class time
Do not pack up until told to and do not congregate around the door at the end of class
No foul language in the classroom, even in your own conversations (warning OCS)
Food and drinks allowed in the classroom; please pick up your trash or else no one is dismissed
Lying to the teacher considered the “2nd” strike. If confronted, please discuss, don’t immediately defend

Please have the pass filled out and make your request by raising your hand with the pass in hand

There is a zero-tolerance policy in relation to cheating. Anyone who is caught cheating on any test or assignment will automatically receive a “0” grade and will not be able to retake the test/assignment.
Academic dishonesty INCLUDES plagiarism—meaning, if you copy all or parts of an assignment from another student, it will be considered cheating for both parties. Any recurring incidents of academic dishonesty will result in a 10% grade reduction in the overall grade. An additional 10% will be reduced with every subsequent incident of academic dishonesty.

Grades are determined through the following categories:
65%: Assignments - Individual and group work assigned in Google Classroom
30%: Assessments - Exams, Oral Presentations, and Narrative Essay
5%: Participation - Asking and answering questions, providing work for review, and discussing content with peers
Grades are posted on Google Classroom and synced with Synergy. The Google Classroom grade is the most accurate grade; Synergy is an approximation. Almost all assignments have digital grading rubrics that must be viewed from a personal computer or on a web browser.
