An emergency response is defined as a “call for service” that is processed through an emergency communication center that necessitated an apparatus that responded to an incident to mitigate the impact on human life and property.
Emergency response (call volume) is the indicator of the operations divisions’ workload. Since the operation division is the largest functional area within the Fire Division and its crews directly provides emergency services to the community. Any changes in workload can impact the availability of the fire division’s emergency crews. As availability changes, there is an associated positive or negative impact on operational effectiveness and levels of service.
