Abstract: Two genes represented by locus tags BA_0053 and BA_0055 from the bacteria Bacillus anthracis str. Ames were annotated using the collaborative genome annotation website GENI-ACT. This bacterium is a nonmotile bacteria that forms spores which can be used in the Biological weapon, Anthrax. The Genbank proposed gene product name for each gene was assessed in terms of the general genomic information, amino acid sequence-based similarity data, and structure-based evidence from the amino acid sequence. Cellular localization data was also used to determine proper annotation. The Genbank proposed gene product name did not differ significantly from the proposed gene annotation for each of the genes in the group and as such, the genes appear to be correctly annotated by the database. Both genes play a role in spore formation with potential involvement in toxin-antitoxin systems.
