Sneaky Snakes

  From tiny holes in the ground to up in the tree tops, snakes live. In the day they will try to find heat to warm themselves. Snakes are amazing!

  Snakes are a cold blooded reptile that don't have any legs but have scales. Snakes don’t have eyelids; instead, their eyes are covered by a clear scale called a spectacle. They can swallow prey much larger than their head because their jaws can stretch apart. They don’t have external ears but “hear” by sensing vibrations through their jawbones.

  There are more than 3,000 different species of snakes worldwide. There are pythons, which are non-deadly. There are water snakes that live in the ocean. About 600 species are venomous, but only a small number are dangerous to humans. They range in size from 8 cm fully grown to the biggest that is 7.67m long.

  Snakes live in every single country except for Antarctica. They live in trees and holes. They like to live in the most warm places that they can find.

  Snakes are very interesting animals that live all over the world. They can be big or small, live in many different places, and have amazing ways of catching food. Even though some are dangerous, most snakes are not harmful to people. Snakes are an important part of nature and help keep the environment balanced.
