Wacky Penguins

  Penguins are a really fascinating species of bird! Not only are they aquatic birds, these majestic feathered creatures can't fly. Also, they live on the brain-freezing, bone-trembling face of Antarctica, but that is still not all… These are unique, mind blowing birds! 

  Penguins are such a cool species of bird. They are so interesting and fun to learn about! Have you ever seen a little blue penguin before? They are so tiny that I bet that you will probably never find one. Their approximate height is about 30-35cm, so I’m not surprised if you haven’t spied one! Penguins actually have wings, except they don’t work the way they normally would. Penguins use their ‘wings’ as flippers, propelling them along nice and speedily through the water. Guess what? When a group of penguins are swimming in the water they are called a ‘raft’, and when a group of penguins are on land they are called a ‘waddle’. Isn’t that cool?

  Penguins are definitely my favourite type of bird. They have so many weird and wonderful facts about them. For starters, penguins poop every 20 minutes, so it would be hard to not get poo on your shoes if you were walking through their beaches! Another thing is that they can’t rest their eggs on the freezing ice, so for months on end, they have to carefully balance the eggs on their feet! Did you know that penguins fall into the category of about 60 birds that can’t actually fly?

   Some facts, like one of my favourite facts about penguins, make them pretty unique. They huddle-up all together when the icy winds kick in so that they don’t absolutely freeze. They also have a special gland inside their head that separates the salt in saltwater, making it possible for them to drink it! Penguins have three eyelids as well, and one of those three actually counts as a pair of goggles, allowing penguins to see underwater a lot more clearly!

  Penguins have so much more to offer than I could ever describe in words. They are so much fun to learn and write about! This wonderful, wild, wacky, whimsical, and waggish bird makes me so joyful and happy even just thinking about it!
