  Cats are mysterious animals and we don't know as much about them as we think. They are very smart, sly, and sneaky, and there are a lot of different breeds.

  There are a lot of species and breeds of cats, and there are over 40 breeds of cats, from the biggest cat, which is the Siberian tiger, all the way to the smallest which is the Singapura, plus everything in between. If you thought there were only a couple of types of cat, you were  wrong, very wrong. Here are some of them: panther, Siberian tiger, snow tiger, lynx lion, jaguar, snow leopard, leopard, marbled cat, golden cat, Chinese mountain cat, jungle cat, sand cat, wild cat, black-footed cat, Scottish Fold, Ragdoll,  Ragamuffin, American short hair, black cat, calico tuxedo cat, Munchkin cat and the Singapura cat, and that’s not even all of them.    

  Cats eat a lot of things, but the best thing to feed them is meat and vegetables. I know what you are thinking, that cats in the wild don’t go and pick vegetables, and you are right: they don’t go and pick vegetables, but when lions kill an animal, what is the first place they go to? Their stomach! Their stomach has all the vegetables that the animal had eaten, so when the lion eats meat it also eats vegetables at the same time. 

  Some lucky cats don’t have to live in the wild so they can live at our home. When cats live at home, they are called domestic, and since they can’t hunt we have to feed them, so make sure their food has stuff like beef, chicken, lamb, turkey, herring, salmon, white fish, mackerel, apples, blueberries, watermelon, pear, pumpkin, cheese and some grains, but you might think that is basically everything and you can feed them anything, but it isn’t true. Even the smallest drop of Paracetamol can be fatal and lots of other foods can be fatal. Their diet is quite specific.

  Cats make lots of sounds like hissing, growling, meowing, and purring. I will tell you about one of these which is purring. Most people think when a cats purr it means they are happy, which it can be, but it also means they are stressed because they use their purring to calm them down with a hormone called endorphins. When you see a cat purr, look around and think, is this cat happy or stressed?

  Cats can be a lot of work and there is a lot to learn about them. I have only scratched the surface of what they are like. There are  lots of varieties of cats, what they eat and how they behave. They are so picky, plus it can be hard to understand them. I hope you have learned something new.
