Fantastic Frogs

  Come with me on my fantastic froggy adventure as I dive deep into the wild world of frogs. Learn all about how they live, where they live, and some pretty wacky species of frogs and toads!

  Frogs can live all over the world, in six different continents to be exact! With one exception, the air around them has to be nice and moist. Their skin soaks in any moisture, so if it is a dry environment they get dehydrated. Since they live in the water and on land, they only have to worry about that when they’re not in water! 

  The life-cycle of a frog is fascinating. First the female lays hundreds of eggs (frogspawn) into water. Once the eggs have hatched, the tadpoles are set free (still in the water). After that the tadpoles get a little bigger, they get two legs, but they stay in the water until they get some lungs. Finally, the frogs turn into froglets, and they come out of the water and onto land because they now have lungs. After they have grown up and had more babies the life-cycle starts again! If you rewind all of that back to the part where the mum lays the eggs, the mum then just leaves the eggs all by themselves, and it’s up to them to survive.

  Next, I will be talking about three crazy different types of frogs! The first frog I’m going to be talking about is the Arrow Frog. Although these frogs are so small, they can really pack a punch. They have enough poison to kill 10 people at once! 

  Toads are very similar to frogs. One is the Surinam Toad. It is probably one of the most weirdest out there. The Surinam Toad, which is also known as the Pipa Pipa, lays her babies out of her back. Yes, you heard me right! She lays babies out of different holes in her back! This toad is so weird I was basically forced to write about it! For my last frog I am just going to be writing about the Cane Toad. This species of Toad was introduced to Australia because these beetles were eating the farmers‘ sugarcane. The Cane Toads came to eat those beetles, except these toads can’t jump too high, and the beetles liked to go up high on the sugarcane plants! Then the Cane Toads started to spread, and fast, and now they are a pest of themselves!

  As you can see, frogs are an incredible amphibian! They range from miniature to gigantic, and they are all adorable in their own way. Thanks for reading my wacky, crazy essay about frogs and toads. I hope you enjoyed it!
