For this assignment, I decided to modify and print my Benchmark 3 sculpture I made in Blender. This character is named Rouge, and they are an amphibious-froglike creature on a quest for a magical orb (look forward to the short film this December!!). To do that, I made a duplicate folder of the original model, and using the append tool, imported in one of the real-life 3D captured items I made a while ago into the file. I then molded the pieces into a bust sculpture. Once that was finished, I exported it as a .stl and gave the files to one of my mom's friends who has a fillament-based 3D printer. There, he helped me start the print and took care of it until it was finished. I then removed all the tedious supports and was left with this lovely gold statue.
I took my photos of the model outside in my backyard. I wanted to show off the filament luster.
Although I forgot to take a photo of the 3D print before uncovering it, it looked like it was wrapped in a really tight cylindrical blanket. Here are the angles of the .stl that was sent to my godfather so I could use his 3D printer. Also with his help I was able to get a screenshot of the print before it was sent through the machine to be printed. I personally find it cool to see the project before being removed from the supports.
These are the "textured" and "solid" models of the print. The base was built using a cube base and the rainbow candie bracelet I scanned for my Benchmark #2 second object. I really liked the texture of it and wanted to utilize that when 3D printing.
Here are some additional pictures as well as a partial hand comparison. The model was around 6 inches and took around 8 hours to complete.
Although it sucked that I could not rely on ASU services for this model (with the Makerspace being completely booked for ages when I wanted to submit my print and my group final print), I am very gratful I had family to help me out. All the credit to finishing this goes to them. One day I will get my own 3D printer and never have to worry about stuff like that again, but until then, I will be bothering my relatives and friends more for my 3D indevors.
