I challenged myself this assignment to utilize a method of modeling I am not super familiar with. Usually, I do the extruding method, or the "polygon method" as I have heard it called. Bacially, taking a basic shape and pulling parts out to make a model, without the need for retopologizing things. However, I have decided to try out sculpting and compositing properly (usually I just used the material preview and harely use render).
The renders I made came out way better than I thought at first. The lights provided a wonderful contrast and dramatic highlight outside of my texturing. I also really wanted to utilize the triangles I gained from making a ton of faces and then merging them to a more managable face number. I found the texture to look really nice, and it sort of looks like a carved wood figure that was polished.
Below are how the model looked with the scuplting blocked colors and without said colors. I forgot to take a picture of when I just started, but they are all spheres, so just imagine a bunch of egg shapes getting ready to be squashed and stretched.
The accessability of Blender really makes me want to do more sculpting. Although I found it mildly fustrating at first, I grew to quite enjoy the process. Also, it runs a lot like Z-brush as well, and that helped a lot with the learning curve. Thank you for being free, Blender, please never cost money.
