The final session of the 2025 BLIA North American Guest Administrator Training Seminar was successfully held at Fo Guang Shan Vancouver from June 19 to 21. Organized by the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA), the seminar brought together 31 dedicated trainees from Vancouver and Edmonton who completed an intensive three-day program. A formal graduation ceremony on June 21 marked their official recognition as Fo Guang Shan Guest Administrators— entrusted with upholding temple hospitality and promoting the values of Humanistic Buddhism.
During the ceremony, Venerable Chueh Chung, Director of the Secretariat of BLIA World Headquarters, encouraged trainees to view the North American training tour as more than a skills program—it was a mission to plant seeds of Bodhi that will take root in local communities and invite more people into the Fo Guang family. He emphasized that the essence of being a Guest Administrator lies not only in mastering ceremonial protocol but in developing a heart of service and practice.
The training featured a well-rounded curriculum, including posture and etiquette, guest reception procedures, award presentation protocols, mock certification ceremonies for new chapter officers, and field drills. A highlight of the final day was the “Showcase Presentation,” where trainee teams of two created and performed real-world scenarios, applying their learning through creativity and collaboration.
Venerable Chueh Chuan, Superintendent of Fo Guang Shan Edmonton, commended the trainees’ positive learning attitude and encouraged them to receive all guests with “gentle kindness and joyful compassion.” BLIA Edmonton President Ms. Youwei Jiang inspired participants with the phrase “I am Buddha,” reminding them to embody both internal cultivation and external excellence in their Guest Administrator role. Trainee Sun Yanqing shared, “Wearing the Guest Administrator’s uniform is like donning a Dharma robe—it reminds me to walk the path of Humanistic Buddhism with diligence and devotion.”
In her closing remarks, Venerable Chueh Chu, Abbess of Fo Guang Shan Vancouver, offered heartfelt guidance to all participants: “A Guest Administrator is not just a service volunteer, but an ambassador of the warmth and sincerity of Fo Guang. Back at your temples, receive every being with equality and humility. Spread the Dharma with grace. Let your conduct be a living example of the Buddha’s teachings.”
This seminar not only enhanced the practical skills of the participants but also deepened their understanding and commitment to the spirit of Fo Guang Shan. The new graduates are expected to bring renewed energy and leadership to their local chapters, advancing Fo Guang Shan’s mission across North America—one heartfelt welcome at a time.
