The 2025 Fo Guang Shan Vancouver Three Acts of Goodness Children’s Summer Camp successfully concluded on July 6. The three-day camp, themed “Connecting Hearts”, welcomed 40 young students for a joyful and enriching journey that blended Buddhist education, real-life practice, and meaningful interactions. The camp was organized and led with care by the BLIA Vancouver YADs.
The camp curriculum centered around the Humanistic Buddhist ideals of the “Three Acts of Goodness and Four Givings”—encouraging children to “do good deeds, speak good words, and think good thoughts.” Activities included Buddhist etiquette, mindfulness meditation, and team building, allowing students to internalize compassion and wisdom through hands-on experiences and games.
In the “Little Chef” activity, children practiced filial piety by baking cookies to gift to their parents and friends—learning gratitude and care through sharing. The outdoor programming was tied into the VEGRUN charity walk, where each child’s completed walk would result in the donation of one pound of fresh vegetables to local charities, embodying the spirit of compassion and altruism.
During the art segment, campers watched films of “By the Way of Chan” and then collaborated on creative skits that reflected what they had learned about Buddhism and its application in daily life. Each group then had performances that showcased not only teamwork but also their deepening understanding of Buddhist values.
At the closing ceremony, Abbess Chueh Chu, Venerables Zong Qian, Miao Xin, and You Yin, along with BLIA Vancouver President Johnny Ng and BLIA Advisor-General Grace Lwu, attended to witness the heartfelt presentations by the campers. Venerable Chueh Chu encouraged the children to reflect on whether they had truly practiced the Three Acts of Goodness, praised their efforts, and expressed faith that these seeds of kindness would grow strong in the future.
Johnny Ng urged the young participants to bring the spirit of the Three Acts of Goodness and Four Givings into their everyday lives, while Grace Lwu praised the youth team’s dedication and expressed hope that they would continue carrying forward this meaningful mission. As a gesture of appreciation, both the temple and BLIA presented gift cards to the youth leaders.
During the awards segment, Group A “Connecting Alpha’s” received the Team Spirit and Harmony Award, and Group B “Busy Bee” earned the Best Group Performance Award. All campers were recognized with the Three Acts of Goodness Harmony Award for their efforts and kindness throughout the camp.
To conclude, Venerable You Yin, the FGS Vancouver YAD advisor, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the collective effort that brought the camp to life and encouraged parents to continue supporting their children’s involvement in future programs, including enrolling them in the Fall Semester at the Little Buddha's Three Acts of Goodness Sunday School, nurturing the seeds of growth and learning.
With laughter and applause echoing, the summer camp came to a joyful end. The heartwarming memories of this “Connecting Hearts” summer will surely shine brightly in the children’s minds, allowing the seeds of the Three Acts of Goodness to continue blossoming—and inspiring hopes of reuniting again next summer.
