On August 17, Fo Guang Shan Vancouver hosted a seminar titled “Buddha’s AI Teachings”, drawing nearly 70 participants interested in both Buddhism and artificial intelligence.
In her remarks, Venerable Chueh Chu reminded participants that AI is only a tool, while the mind is the true foundation of practice. She stressed that technology may increase efficiency, but it cannot replace human awareness and compassion, urging everyone to protect wisdom and kindness while embracing new tools.
Venerable Chueh Chu presented awards for best team performance and compared ChatGPT with Fo Guang Shan’s own “Humanistic Cloud” AI platform. Speakers highlighted that while AI may change daily life, qualities like spiritual growth and creativity remain uniquely human.
In closing, she summed up: “AI improves efficiency, but Dharma gives wisdom.” She encouraged everyone to face rapid technological change with Buddhist practice at the core, using compassion and insight to meet impermanence and open new horizons for the human mind.
