On July 26, BLIA Vancouver’s Profound Subchapter held its first outdoor practice of 2025 at Redwood Park in Surrey, bringing together over 30 members and friends. Venerable Zong Qian attended, sharing Dharma and uplifting the group in a day that combined nature and Buddhist practice.
Redwood Park was created by twin brothers who loved nature and planted trees from around the world, especially redwoods. They also built a treehouse, later rebuilt after a fire. Today, colorful small wooden houses painted by visitors add charm to the park.
Inspired by this tradition, the subchapter organized a birdhouse painting activity, letting members decorate plain wooden houses in bright colors. During a hike, they placed the finished houses in the forest for birds to use, adding beauty to the environment.
Lunch featured homemade dishes and warm conversation, followed by a Dharma session led by Venerable Zong Qian, who encouraged sharing personal insights. Her simple yet profound teaching brought inspiration, leaving everyone feeling recharged in body and mind.
At the close, members pledged donations to the Surrey Food Bank, turning compassion into action. The event blended nature, Dharma, and creativity, nurturing both inner growth and the Humanistic Buddhism spirit of compassion and wisdom.
