In response to the global Vegrun Charity Run for Vegetarian Awareness, the Fang Guang Subchapter of BLIA Vancouver organized a “Forest Veggie Walk” at Fleetwood Park on June 28. Over 30 members and their families joined the event, combining fitness with compassion as they walked the forest trail together. The group collectively logged over 60 kilometers, which was translated into a donation of 12 pounds of fresh vegetables to local charities in need.
Although summer had already started, the weather was still cool and pleasant. The event began with a lively warm-up dance led by Vice President Sister Yimiao Liu, followed by a Baduanjin stretching exercise to help everyone relax and get ready. Participants were both happy and refreshed before starting the for the walk.
People of all ages, from 12 to 82 years old, joined the walk and enjoyed the fresh air and peaceful forest path. According to Vegrun’s rules, for every 10 kilometers walked or run, BLIA donates 2 pounds of fresh vegetables to a local charity.
After the walk, everyone gathered on the grass for a fun potluck picnic, where they shared delicious homemade food, chatted, and laughed together. The subchapter also organized fun group games that made the whole event even more exciting. Everyone, young and old, had a great time.
Many members shared that this activity not only helped improve their health and build friendships, but also gave them a chance to do something good for others. It was a meaningful and joyful experience that truly showed the Fo Guang spirit of benefiting self and others. Everyone is already looking forward to doing it again next time!
