This year marks an important milestone for the 33rd Richmond Buddha's Light Scouts as they celebrate their 25th anniversary. On October 6, the opening ceremony for the 2024-2025 school year was held at Vancouver Fo Guang Shan, welcoming new scouts and expressing gratitude for the continuous sponsorship and support from Fo Guang Shan over the past 25 years. Abbess Venerable Chueh Chu attended to present certificates, and the ceremony was hosted by troop leader Harrison Kwan, with nearly 100 scouts and parents in attendance.
The ceremony commenced with the raising of the national flag, officially marking the beginning of a new year for the scouts. The Beaver scouts, cub scouts, and scout troops showcased their unique characteristics, highlighting the rich history of scouting and their aspirations for the coming year. Each group welcomed new members and conducted advancement ceremonies, symbolizing the achievements gained from their scouting experiences as they continue on their journey.
Venerable Chueh Chu emphasized the importance of ongoing growth and learning within scouting, encouraging everyone to embrace the core values of the Three Acts of Goodness during their activities, “doing good deeds, speaking good words, and having a good heart”.
Harrison Kwan shared his personal experiences as a scout leader, reflecting on years of service and the friendships formed with fellow leaders, scouts, and volunteers. The 33rd Richmond Scout Troop is dedicated to nurturing youth and leaders, serving the community, and fostering integration within the community.
Additionally, before the opening ceremony, the Buddha's Light Scouts held their Annual General Meeting (AGM), attended by over 30 parents who expressed their commitment and support for future activities. During the meeting, the scout leadership team briefly discussed the direction of activities, learning objectives, and code of conduct, as well as plans and operations for the coming year.
