As the madness and paranoia of King Amran of Wyrdr deepened, they declared a tournament and invited mighty warriors from across the Known Lands and beyond to compete. The Awakened of the Unfinished Tome, many of whom had suffered personally under Amran’s ever-growing irrationality, came in force to participate. Blood was drawn both in and out of the arena. While the champions of the day were Ailis and Menander, another competitor was slain outside the arena, prompting fury from Amran at the betrayal of their hospitality and division among the Tower of whether to surrender their own for judgement, or refuse the King’s authority.
Eventually, as the shadowy force controlling the king became apparent to them, the Tower set out to liberate Wyrdr from the strange spectral puppetmaster, Bogathrea. They plumbed the depths of Loch Udron for the first piece of her Psyketra and freed the Naiad she had enslaved. Then they met Amran in open combat, and defeated them, their knights, and the liche herself. King Amran died, and a Knight Protector, Secunda Varthale, was appointed to oversee Wyrdr in its recovery, until a new monarch is crowned, or perhaps something else takes their place.
The Tower’s quests stretched far beyond the Known Lands besides, as they befriended the healing nation of Ashain, hunted down and destroyed the Reliquary of Kakeris, the Paladin of the Vulture who had long traded words and worse with the Tower. They ventured to the forest of Gullnane and slew those who desecrated the Ancient Tree that grew there.
While the Gate aligned to the ancient and storied city of Nessus, they explored its streets and mysteries, investigating runes and memories and ancient lore of death and revelation. Some found allies among the Keepers of the Comrades Ledger. Others sought to steal the great and magical tome, and this too led to much strife between the Awakened. As conflict brewed within, so it did without. The Awakened struck out against the forces of Hrath Dain, who had built a fort near Keld. The Awakened of the Tower seized it and built their own mighty wall of stone to guard the pass, but none believed that this would be the end of it.
