If you intend to assault, kill, or rob another player character (or believe that the current situation may escalate to that), you are engaging in PvP (player versus player).
Following your feedback, we have put together a clear step by step process of how you can perform PvP within the Unfinished Tome:
First, speak to a referee (preferably one of Cullen, James / 15, Grace, or Matt) and let them know you require a ref for a PvP situation. All PvP chats with referees are OOC.
The referee will need to know who is the target, what actions you will be taking (including any equipment and rites you are using), and what motivated your character to take this action (this last request is to allow us to monitor the situation within the player party).
The referee will either agree to cover the PVP as requested or ask you to defer slightly whilst they arrange things.
After the PvP action has occurred, you should allow the referee to deal with the target and any OOC fallout.
Other notes around PvP:
In the event PvP arises with no referee present and there is a dispute over the result, the balance of doubt goes to the defender.
You should avoid engaging in PvP inside the player hut, and may be asked to avoid certain areas around the site, all for OOC safety reasons.
If a “Lay Off” call is used within a PvP action, all involved should reduce the intensity of their roleplay, and soften their weapon blows, but are not required to stop the PvP action itself.
The referee’s call within the PvP action is always final, please respect their decision. If you feel an error was made during the PvP you may politely query this with the referee OOC afterwards or follow our complaints policy that can be found here: https://sites.google.com/view/unfinished-tome/about-us/our-policies?authuser=0
Referees will not answer any questions around PvP as their Pages, but can drop OOC should you want to discuss anything.
Rites do not differentiate between PvE and PvP action.
To move another character they must be Unresisting.
An Unresisting character is one that is on 0 HP, is Paralysed or declares themselves to be so.
To move another character requires 1 free hand.
You must not touch a player unless they have explicitly consented.
There are no contests of strength; if two people are attempting to move an Unresisting character in opposite directions then they will not move.
A character can be moved at normal walking speed.
If you are under the Entangle effect you cannot be moved from where you were Entangled (unless it is a safety concern).
If you are under the Paralyse effect you can be moved.
You must not touch a player unless they have explicitly consented.
You must use appropriate roleplaying searching for at least 30 seconds.
You can search an Unresisting character to attempt to find any IC items that they are carrying. You can only do this if you have both hands free. If you complete the count without interruption then the target must reveal every IC item that they are carrying and allow you to take any of them.
If you and the target agree that you both prefer to perform a real search then you may do so. You must not touch the player without a clear indication that they are comfortable for you to do so. You do not have to phys-rep the search if you are not comfortable doing so.
You may steal any obviously IC item such as money, a map, IC scroll or document.
You must return IC phys-reps to Games Control within 30 minutes.
You can only steal items during time-in.
You cannot enter a tent that has been sealed.
Do not go through people's obviously OOC belongings.
Do not mix your IC items with OOC belongings.
You must ensure that the owner has the opportunity to regain their phys-rep within 30 minutes of stealing it, either by returning it to the player or by handing it in at game's control.
You can only steal items from the IC area and during time-in. If you are stealing IC items, then you must make sure that you avoid going through any bags or boxes that contain obviously OOC belongings. If you are keeping OOC items in an IC area, then you must make sure you do not mix IC items in with them.
You may not enter a tent that has been sealed unless it is your own tent or there are clearly people inside the tent roleplaying. You can only take items from a tent that has an obvious entrance that has been left open to allow characters to pass in and out. You must get a ref to assist you if you wish to enter a sealed tent that has players inside who are roleplaying.
