Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood God, praying only for knowledge for God's will for us and the power to carry that out.
Step Eleven is an essential tool to use in our recovery from codependency. It reminds us that this program is an ongoing one, requiring daily maintenance. As we improve our conscious contact with God through prayer and meditation, we gain knowledge of God's will for us. We are asked to let go of our struggle to control and to turn to God, as we understand God, for our direction. This Step is one of our guides to developing more honest and loving relationships. Willing to improve our conscious contact, we humbly accept our journey of recovery.
Daily prayer and meditation connect us with the God of our understanding and how we want to live today. It is our way of acknowledging to ourselves that we are never alone. We can also let if be a time to humbly remember the character defects that have prevented us from recognizing God's will.
We approach prayer and meditation in many different ways. For many of us, this is not a formal event. Some commune with nature and the outdoors; some say words like "serenity" and "love to feel quiet within; some use affirmations to bring their Higher Power into their thoughts; some kneel in quiet repose; some sit and breathe deeply; and some use self-talk to connect with themselves and their Higher Power. Prayer and meditation is our way of improving our conscious contact with the God of our understanding It does not matter how we pray and meditate; what matters is that we do it.
This Step tell us to pray only for knowledge of God's will for us and the power to carry that out. We improve our conscious contact and increase awareness of our own reality, through prayer and meditation. We find the power we need to carry out God's will, as we work this Step.
Knowing we have a loving Higher Power, we find the strength and power to carry out God's will for us. Through prayer and meditation, we wee connections between the events in our lives. We have come to believe there is a power greater than ourselves and our willing to turn our lives over to the care of God, as we understand God, as stated in Step Three. We are able to reflect on the wonder of our lives, with gratitude to our Higher Power.
