This is the last thing we put on our calendar when we met earlier this year. Kings peak is physically challenging. The hike into base camp is actually not too steep. The hike to the summit, makes up for it, with elevation and distance. Care must be taken on the large boulders to the summit.
Kings Peak <- Trail Map
It is important to be prepared. The weather on Kings Peak can change rapidly. Be prepared for showers. When I did this in August we had showers and hail.
Utah Fire Restrictions - Looks like no campfires. There is a circle of restrictions around Dollar and Henry's Fork Lake, encompassing the area we planned to camp.
High Uintas - Regulations
Kings peak is in the Evanston Ranger District

Gear
See the summer camping list in "Resources" below.
Note this list is made to be fairly comprehensive, don't plan to bring everything. Weigh carefully what you need/don't need.
Don't be deceived by the weather in South Jordan. The weather in the High Uintas is typically 30° colder. Looking at the forecasts right now, while South Jordan is Sunny and clear, the highs are in the low 60s and there is rain and thunderstorms called for in the Unitas. Plan on cooler and wetter weather.
I can't stress the 10 essentials enough. I believe, there are boys that would be alive today if they had the essentials. However, look for ways to make it lightweight.
Need lightweight day pack to carry essentials, lunch, and water (2 liters min) for summit hike.
Stove. pot for heating water, Water Filter - I will have and they can use.
I will also bring a Bear Vault, and an Ursack Major. Smellables should not be stored in tents!
Yes, there are many trees if you wish to use a hammock.
I do have some backpacks, what gear do you need? If needing gear is preventing you from going let me know. I might be able to help.
