Watch the Pre-Departure Meeting with Rome Staff
During my semester in Rome (Spring 2023) I have had the chance to focus on immersive initiatives and activities.
Living off campus in an apartment with an italian student, doing an internship in Rome and spending time with the University Partners allowed me to learn a lot about Italian language and culture.
The Italian Living Project, the Intership Program and the University Parters made my experience in Rome a truly immersive one. I felt like a local during my semester abroad. Being an Italian studies Major at Trinity, all of these experiences have been extremely helpful.
I recommend all students going to Rome to take advantage of these opportunities to immerse themselves in the culture and me more independent during their time abroad.
During my semester in Rome, I Lived in an apartment in the Trastevere area with Zoe, Luca and Anita. Anita is an Italian students majoring in Global Humanities at Università La Sapienza, in Rome.
The apartment is a 20 minute walk from campus, I enjoyed having more independence with this housing opportunity, and having a kitchen was a great plus for me and my roommates.
I interned at Kami Cose, a publishing house founded by Piero Vereni, one of the professors of the Rome Campus Faculty.
I went to a co-working space in San Giovanni area twice a week for my internship; all other coworkers spoke mainly Italian, so this was another great occasion to improve my language skills.
At my internship, I worked on improving the company website, I translated texts from Italian to English and on the contracts for these translations as well.
Meetings with the University Partners were another component of my immersive experience in Rome.
During the semester, I spent a lot of time off campus with the University Partners, and that allowed me to practice my conversation skills and learn more about my peers in Italy.
It's been very interesting to compare the University Parters' experiences as students in Rome to our own.
Spending time with the University Partners proved to be a great way to learn more about Rome, how to navigate the city and enjoy our time abroad.
