Trinity College Rome Campus is committed to offering all of our students a diverse, equal, inclusive environment. We share with our faculty, staff and extended community in Rome training, tools, discussions designed to build an open, inclusive environment.
We have always worked to offer a welcoming environment to our students, and our commitment to foster diversity and equity, to ensure safe, supportive, and positive experiences for all is designed to have a stronger impact on our student’s life in Rome.
We want to make sure to offer you the same resources you can rely on at home, on your campus; we are creating spaces here in Rome to give you the chance to keep focusing on experiences and discussions about social justice, prejudice, privilege, identity while also offering you the opportunity to connect and learn more about Italian culture through discussions about these same topics here.
We are working to effectively integrate conversation on diversity and inclusion to all aspects of our program, from extracurricular activities, to academics, to immersive experiences and we count on your participation and on your voices to do so.

OFFICE HOURS -> by appointment: reach out to the Coordinator or any of the interns to schedule a meeting to learn more about our initiatives, ask for support to navigate available resources, talk about your doubts or concerns, share ideas.
COUNSELING -> ask the staff to get in touch and/or schedule an appointment with English speaking counselors.
ORIENTATION -> Orientation will include a detailed presentation on DEI activities, initiatives and resources for students in Rome on and off campus.
COMMUNITY CONVERSATION EVENTS -> discussions, meetings and workshops taking place on and off campus with the participation of Italian activists and experts to promote intergroup dialogue and conversations about social justice, prejudice, privilege and learn more about Italian culture about these same topics.
STUDENTS INVOLVEMENT -> creation of a student role of DEI ambassador on campus.

COMMUNITY CONVERSATION EVENT/ ITALIAN LANGUAGE LAB - SUMMER 2023

On campus talk with Takoua Ben Mohamed, Italian graphic designer, director and executive producer of Tunisian descent. Through the conversation with Ben Mohamed, we learned about her works and commitment, her personal experience, and also got to reflect on the topics you discussed in class for the courses of the Summer Institute, which intersect with many elements of Ben Mohamed's artistic production.

Meeting with Takoua Ben Mohamed was also a great occasion to learn more about citizenship for second generation Italians and Afroitalian communities in Rome.

DEI INTERNSHIP - SPRING 2023

Visit to Tuba, a women’s bookshop, a coffee shop and bar. Tuba it’s a women-run business open from early morning until late night, since 2007 in the main square of the Pigneto district in Rome - event promoted and organized by Rachel place, Lily Ryan and Claire Hu, DEI interna in Rome during Spring 2023.

DEI INTERNSHIP - FALL 2022

Visit at Museo delle Civiltà in the EUR district. This museum brings together the collections of the Prehistoric Ethnographic Museum, the Museum of Folk Arts and Traditions, the Museum of the Early Middle Ages, the Museum of Oriental Art and the recent Italo-African Museum (formerly the Colonial Museum).

The museographic project currently underway aims to present to the public, through a renewed critical framework, the history of the Colonial Museum and its controversial collections, the political and cultural contexts, colonial violence, and the imagery and representations that have accompanied relations between Italy, Libya, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia, former Italian colonies.

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month having delicious Mexican food in Trastevere - event promoted and organized by Shakira Hall, DEI intern in Rome during Fall 2022.

Snacks at Casa Publicii by Hummustown: taking a break from studying to enjoy delicious Syrian food prepared by Hummustown, an organization based in Rome that welcomes Syrian refugees, who trough HT's support are able to be financially independent and remain connected to their culture while in Italy - Event promoted and organized by Shakira Hall, DEI intern in Rome during Fall 2022.

Discovering San Lorenzo through a sound-walk by Guide Invisibili, a storytelling project promoted by Laboratorio 53, an association that offers assistance and shelter to migrants, refugees and minors.

During the sound-walk, a group of young migrants describe Roman neighborhoods through their personal stories and under new perspectives. Guide Invisibili are interactive narratives of urban areas, where the listener is invited to navigate through a new space moulded by the voices, the stories and the memories of of young migrants - Event promoted and organized by Shakira Hall, DEI intern in Rome during Fall 2022.

Angela Lavecchia - Diversity, Equity & inclusion Coordinator

Angela Lavecchia holds a BA in Foreign Languages and a MA in Comparative Literature from Università degli Studi di Napoli “L’Orientale”. Her main research interests include the influence of the Civil Rights Movement in the United States on the works of Amiri Baraka and representation of female characters in the novels of William Faulkner.

She has completed a Master’s Degree in Teaching and Promotion of Italian Language and Culture to foreign students at University Ca’ Foscari, with a research on the role of graphic novels by second generation authors on intercultural communication in Italy.

She is currently pursuing a PhD in Cultural Heritage, Education and Urban Studies at Università degli Studi di Roma "Tor Vergata". Her PhD research focuses on American study abroad programs and their connections with local communities.

During her last year as a student in Napoli, she spent a semester abroad in Dublin, Ireland for an internship sponsored by the Erasmus Placement Exchange Program.

She has worked for two years as Italian Teaching Fellow at Bowdoin College, Maine and she has taught Italian and English as second language to immigrants and refugees in Torino for one year. She has worked for one year with CIEE Ferrara as Italian Language Instructor and Assistant to the Program Coordinator for the college students programs and has also been involved with the High School Summer Abroad programs as Program leader and Italian Language Instructor. Angela is fluent in English and has also studied French, German and Arabic.
