"The greatest time of my life"
"I was blessed to have gotten my first choice at the Rome Cooking Class with Chef Andrea, and man am I so happy I did.
I first started with the basics, teaching various classes by showing people how to make pasta and educating them on the different types of pasta and the different shapes that existed. Soon after, I was given more responsibility and started to clear plates, teach people how to make pasta, as well as some of the cooking in the kitchen! Chef Andrea generously let me take over some parts of the cooking which was so cooooool!
After several times of working there I realized how bad I wanted to work, and every opportunity I had to work and hang with Chef Andrea I took!
I went in with the mindset that I wanted my internship to be a cultural experience, something I could look back on and tell my kids when I'm older about. Something that I could say would always have a special place in my heart. I did not know I would become such good friends with Chef Andrea, but I did and I am forever grateful for that.
I not only learned a lot about food and Italian cuisine, but I learned what it means to live life doing something you love. Something Chef Andrea said to some clients one time that will always stick with me the rest of life is "no matter what happens in life, you need to do something you love and care about and you cannot do something because someone else told you to"
Some of my best memories in Rome come from my internship. The first one was when my friends and the rest of Trinity came and took the cooking class. My friends said it was one of the best nights they've had in Rome.
My intention throughout my time working there was to make sure everyone had a memorable experience, and most clients do! Chef Andrea wants it to feel like the best party in the world. Throughout the rest of my life, I will do my best to make people laugh, and try my best to provide my clients in whatever industry I enter into with an experience that they remember as a party. I am forever grateful and incredibly sad that my experience has come to an end.
Do not change anything, and please encourage Trinity students to take part to the internship if they want to feel part of the Italian culture, and get a full abroad experience."

"This internship made my experience in Rome"
"Working along with Chef Andrea at Cooking Classes in Rome enhanced my cultural experience.
From the start, Chef Andrea has been the most welcoming and kind individual. This helped me ease into the work while getting to know clients. I helped Chef Andrea assist clients, serve meals, and close after the cooking was done. Through these classes, I not only got to connect with clients, but also learn amazing recipes that I will be able to take home to my friends and family in America.
If you are someone who likes to connect with people and make great recipes, or someone who is interested in going outside of your comfort zone, Cooking Classes in Rome would be the perfect internship for you!"

"Chef Andrea holds up to two classes a day, one at lunch and one at dinner, where people come in, learn about Italian, and specifically Roman, food, learn to cook some traditional local dishes, and enjoy eating the food they've helped make.
There was no specific role I had to fulfill just helping out wherever was needed. This often meant helping with some of the cooking such as cutting veggies, peeling tomatoes, or making pasta. During this section, I would still always be attempting to engage with the clients, learning more about them, hearing about their experiences in Italy, and whatever conversations came up naturally.
Chef Andrea and I would split up, he would run the kitchen making the appetizers, pasta sauce, and desserts while I ran the pasta station. I would walk the students through how to roll out and make pasta. Once dinner was made I was then in charge of serving the clients throughout the meal. Once the guests leave I help with the cleanup and then am done for the day.
One of the biggest things I did to optimize my experience was to be as engaging and friendly as possible with clients. Sharing your experiences in Rome and hearing about theirs make the evenings much more enjoyable. You are meeting new people each time you come to class and one of the biggest parts is being able to ensure that guests are having fun and enjoying themselves.
Chef Andrea is super fun and nice to work for.
Being willing to maybe go a little outside of your comfort zone and put yourself out there while meeting new people and helping run cooking classes will make the whole experience so much better and you will get a lot more out of it."

"For my internship I interned with Chef Andrea, assisting him with the cooking classes he
conducted. [...] I learned a great deal of Italian culture through this internship as I became familiar with some of the popular dishes offered in Rome.
Moreover, I was able to be hands-on as I taught the clients how to make fresh pasta like
fettuccine and gnocchi.
My responsibilities varied as I was responsible for assisting Chef Andrea. Most days I was cleaning and preparing for new clients. But also, I had the responsibility of making sure all the clients were enjoying themselves. This meant a great deal of socializing and entertaining which some days were more difficult than others given not all the clients were fluent in English and so there was an obvious language barrier.
Overall, my internship experience has been great and with the support of Chef Andrea it
wasn't very stressful at all. [...]
The only advice I have for future interns interested in interning with Chef Andrea is being able to entertain and socialize with the clients because that's an important aspect. In addition, it’s important to be flexible with time given, as it is similar to any restaurant being dependent on when the clients arrive and leave. It is also important to calculate your time in terms of transportation and understanding that it is located in Trastevere."
