Proposal For The City Of Reading

Dear Sirs & Ladies

Bio-Warrior Program

Ladies and gentlemen a fire that has burned an area the size of California is burning in Australia and will continue to burn for months yet. The climate sciences there have given up and are moving their families to the southern parts of the country or migrating to another country all together. Climate change is causing people are moving all over the world due to climate change. Are you as the leaders of this area going to be like the Australian government denies the same. Have you noticed the hill behind us. The trees are starting to change colors so very early. Have you driven the 5th street highway to see the azalea's blooming along the road. It’s January. January. Records from my records that happened last year in February. Not only was that early then it’s a month earlier now. I have fruit trees where the buds are showing signs of swelling. It’s January.

We’re not going to stop climate change it’s too late. Greed and comfort has seen to that. Question becomes are we going to be like the half billion animals that have lost their lives running from what they didn’t understand. Our mid west is burning and flooding at the same time. Our food supply is dwindling and more than 10,000 farmers have become bankrupt, 300,000 farm jobs lost amid the tariff war. We need to start thinking about what can be done how ever little that effort can be. Young people need to learn methods of producing food, even tobacco.

You want to fix blighted area’s You can put in fruit trees of all types. There’s no soil involved so there’s no weight problem and it comes apart. It’s just a bucket with a hole in it. Since everything is portable you can have traveling cutting gardens anywhere in the city running on free rainwater. I’d like to see Cartech’s empty lot to grow a Corn Maze to be used for a city attention getting /events. Or how about the city grows Christmas trees that the people can rent then return. So the planters are recycled plastic commonly used for measuring things we use. There are plenty of buildings that have torrents of water flowing off them in the rain. A few tankers at these points will be more than enough for a system that uses 90% less water than any other hydroponic system and 98 % compared to in ground. There’s no complicated piping or motors to move water. No need to level for water flow because each container is separate from the other. .

We are facing a cultivation shift on how are foods are produced. We want more and more awareness and participation in how our food is grown and the nutrition it provides. We want food security that even the simplest salads don’t travel 1,000 of miles. As more and more natural spaces are taken over by urban sprawl we see ourselves struggling to put it back. As different people we all feel the need for natural spaces, to watch life grow. One of the most intimate things we do is eat. So it’s no surprise we want in the kitchen and the fields to see how our for is grown and prepared. But using The Dark Garden Method with a city wide program I call Bio-Warriors. These students work for Education Dollars. Money that they can use for things towards their education. Anything they need to present themselves, shoes laptops, clothes, Even up to a car when them get out of school. These apprentice gardeners will not only be responsible for making and caring for city street displays. Like the pole planters for the city. Welcome gardens at the city entrances. With all the empty spaces in the city just collecting sunlight we grow gardens for a flower day. 5000 strong because we have a apprentices trained in a method of gardening that doesn’t even need a shovel. Nearly everything in the gardens is recycled plastic in a plug and play system. Most of their job will be to make sure to deadhead plants, pull any weeds. Even call for replacement plants from one of the other gardens around the city. And of course check the water and fertilizer weekly. Say another young person says that they want to grow an orchard in a empty lot by where they live. Even the family says they want to help. They can produce quite a harvest to sell to the school district and earn more education dollars. Think of the underlying economics that gives them while helping a family member to succeed Which they can’t use for themselves but help their child in doing so. How about that big parking lot across from the stadium. A number of children farmers could grow Whole squads of gardens that they then spread out thru the city welcoming people in. An idea I’d like to see is a Corn Maze growing in the parking lot of the kiddie school across from Albright. It’s portable. You can take it downtown for Halloween in that same parking lot say for a week. An have it change every night. I like the idea too of having a Valentine’s Day in July where on both sides of the street from 7th & Penn to 2ndt & Penn there are cutting gardens for free. Or think of a young person who’s doing both the Bio-Warrior program and ROTC reporting to their first commander saying they can grow the entire food, fiber and bio-fuel needs of the base.. What kind of field do you think their commander’s going to put them in. And the whole thing is portable. I like the original idea I had for disaster relief. What happened with Katrina made me shamed to be an American. I like being an American. We make more millionaires than any where else. This is where you can put an idea on paper and make it a forest fire by morning. So that’s what I’m doing putting a fork in the road of agriculture and bring back local food security. Ways that don’t need large equipment. Not very many hand tool and you can do it sitting or standing.

The education dollars are earned by how many gardens they inspire or grow on their own. Creating a economy thru the development of Sustainable Urban Farming.
