Dear Avid Readers
Welcome to our new Avatar of website. I hope you will like the liveliness of the site in an interactive way. We are bringing our new issue with three papers. The first paper is an outcome of an experiment conducted at Amity University, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, wherein the students were given control in the planning, designing and implementation of the learning process. They were given the freedom to learn at their own ease and pace. Furthermore, qualitative research techniques like observation and semi-structured interview of students were used to ascertain the utility of the outcomes. The second paper attempts to discuss the use of Lumen 5, a Web 2.0 tool to teach phrasal verbs in a critical pedagogy classroom where the learners belong to different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. The third paper discusses the Syrian educational system which has been growing in the past six years with the average number of tests that schools and colleges set every year increased three-folds. This test inflation paved the way to the birth of a ‘testocracy’ that brought about new challenges for stakeholders and test developers. Of all the tests that Syrian students take, the National Baccalaureate Examination (NBE from here onwards) is the most critical. This paper sheds light on one part of this test, namely the NBE of English language.
I hope this issue will give you new approaches of action research, new technologies and its better understanding in dissemination of thoughts in very lucid and innovative manner
Your precious feedback and suggestions are always welcome.
