The palace of Kind Henry is surrounded by humans but in the moor there are fairies like beautiful Maleficent. In addition the moor is full of magic and all the desirable things all humans desire and covet, such as precious gems. All the fairies that live in the magical moor have two leader: Hermia and Lysander- who look like human beings and dream of a kingdom where human beings and fairies live in harmony. They were assassinated by the cruel king as they and left their small daughter all alone. Their daughter was raised by fairies of the moor and was named as Maleficent. On the contrary, Stefan follows the human tendency by betraying her and taking her wings after intoxicating her. When Maleficent wakes up, she is heartbroken. She leaves the moor and takes solace in an abandoned castle. She gradually discovers that humans in her absence have been trying to loot the moor she builds a wall of huge thorns around the moors and orders them to protect the moors. When she returnes to the human kingdom, she finds that Stefan has become a kind as reward of Maleficent’s wings (as it was a gift for Maleficent’s wings). King Stefan being scared, steps ahead and kneels before Maleficent and begs to take her curse back to which Maleficent laughs and adds an amendment that she can be awoken by true love’s kiss, which Maleficent believes doesn’t exist.King Stefan orders the three fairies to take the Princess into the woods and bring her up till the curse gets over. The three fairies turn into human beings and start taking care of the small princes Aurora. As she grows up, Maleficent was keeps an eye on every bit of it. Following her basic personality traits, Maleficent gradually starts pampering Aurora and takes care of her to the best pretending as if she does really not care. By the time Aurora grows up as a beautiful young princess, King Stefan keeps orders to keep all the spindle of a spinning wheel away from the kingdom. Unaware of the curse and reality, Aurora requests Maleficent to live with her forever and tells her that’s she always considered her as a fairy godmother. Maleficent repents and tries to take her curse back but she soon realizes that her curse cannot be undone by any power on earth. One day Aurora gets to know that she is a princess and goes to meet her father in the palace, where she by mistake touches the spindle of a spinning wheel that was kept in a locked room of the palace and sleeps forever.Maleficent applies her magic and takes the young prince who loved Aurora to the palace. The prince kisses Aurora but the curse is not broken. Here comes the twist in the story, Maleficent while repenting kisses Aurora as she considered Aurora her own daughter. To everybody’s surprise Aurora gets up from her everlasting sleep as the Kiss of maleficent was the kiss of true love- Love of a mother. In the end Aurora goes against the decision of her father Steffen and unlocks the wings of maleficent and lives in the moor with all faeries forever.Final wordsAs a book, Maleficent is a cleverly woven tale with a number of underlying interesting aspects: it changes the antagonist into a protagonist, the colour of Maleficent’s magic changes from green when evil and red when good, and it focuses entirely on the central character Maleficent.Language:The language of maleficent is quiet alluring and the phrases and spells have been chosen wisely to give it a touch of ‘magical realism’. The language right from the curse to till the climax of the novel where the definition of heroism has been transformed and the definition of true love has been modified (the true love if not only of love it can be of mother also).Point of view:The perspective with which the novel has been written (antagonist to a protagonist) sets it true as the character of Maleficent sets her to be a true hero in the text. The point of view of giving new dimension has also done wonders in an unsaid said way with the magic that kept changing throughout the novel from green to red.Treatment of time:The language of the text, however has been presented in the 20th century but still remains to be of the time of fairytales and the commencement of the text remains as same as any other fairytale. The description of attire of each character including the crow has been done according to the time when the story of Sleeping Beauty was written.About the movie
