AI Usage

The field of AI technology is rapidly evolving, and as it evolves, so does our stance on the use of it. In order to enhance your writing, we are currently allowing limited use of AI. This means that AI cannot solely produce your writing for you. As with any other writing tool, it is necessary you use it in an ethical manner consistent with our guidelines. It is also crucial to remember that the authorization for use of this tool is being given under the assumption it will allow you to write higher-quality content for our clients, not lower. We will allow authors to use AI as an optimization tool ONLY when explicitly directed by the client, but it cannot do the writing for you. If the client does not mention AI in their briefing, the use of AI in ANY capacity is not permitted.
The use of AI-generated content has recently risen to popularity. This sudden rise means there are a lot of misconceptions about AI-generated content and misinformation about what AI is as a whole. AI is short for artificial intelligence. The field of artificial intelligence is robust and complicated, but in the simplest terms, it is using large sets of data to allow computers to problem-solve. AI often uses machine learning as well, which is when the coding allows for the AI to learn and adapt overtime to improve its accuracy. To summarize, AI uses inputted data to solve problems and may have the potential to adapt over a period of time. This means AI is not creating unique content as it only has the ability to compile and interpret existing content.
Due to how broad the field of artificial intelligence is, there is an abundance of possibilities and uses for AI. These uses are rapidly expanding and growing as more and more programmers experiment. The capabilities of each particular AI program also vary depending on the data-set presented to them and the coding itself. However, common uses of AI include virtual workspace organization, correction of code, surface-level proofreading, prompt generation, search engine functions, and other tasks. Despite all of these potential uses, there are drawbacks to artificial intelligence we must be mindful of.
Like anything else with man-made origins, AI is not flawless. The most obvious one is the fact that AI does not create unique content. It may combine content from multiple sources or generate content based off of existing data, but nothing that AI creates is unique. Furthermore, AI is often very repetitive and mechanical in its phrasing. It isn’t uncommon for AI to repeat sentences, phrasing, or sentence structure several times throughout the same piece of content. This leads to the next drawback: filler. AI can be extremely fillery and go off onto unrelated tangents. The result is lower-quality content. Finally, AI will often make up information. It will either use unreliable resources or make up information based on what the algorithms that run it believe is correct. Regardless, if you do ask it for sources, it may either falsify a source or give a source that it believes is supporting it, even if this resource is not.
With the drawbacks of AI in mind, there are helpful ways you can incorporate it into your writing. One way to use AI-generated content could be for inspirational purposes or to overcome writer’s block. By asking AI for prompts or for general ideas, it can assist with getting the writing process started for you. Moving on, it can be used for creating a structure for your writing. By asking it to provide examples, it might give you an idea on how to format your order. This can cut down on time when an order has limited instructions. Finally, AI can be used for surface-level proofreading of spelling and grammar, as AI does not possess the capability for effective content-editing.
While we allow the above uses of AI, we also have restrictions our authors must abide by. Our authors are not permitted to submit content that is purely or mostly generated by AI. Furthermore, our authors are not allowed to spin AI-generated content. Any time saved by using AI will likely be spent optimizing your text to ensure the client is getting the best work possible. All content made in part by AI must be revised, fact-checked, and stylistically refined to make sure it meets our guidelines for acceptable content. Violation of our policies regarding AI-generated content may result in refusal of orders, revocation of payment, star level demotions, and termination of your account. Finally, client consent to use AI must be explicitly stated within the order briefing. If AI is not mentioned, you are not permitted to use it.
AI is a useful tool when used correctly. It can be used to optimize your writing and provide higher-quality content. However, AI is not a shortcut, nor should you expect to save any time by using it. Like any tool, it has drawbacks and downsides you must be cognizant of. And it is critical that any use of AI does not violate our rules or reduce the quality of your writing.
