Your star level is representative of the quality of your writing as well as your ability to follow instructions. You can only write orders that are at your star level or lower, and you can only join teams that allow your star level. Your rating is completely flexible, which means that you always have the chance to make it up to 5 stars! But be warned: That goes both ways. If your quality slips and doesn't show improvement, you'll most likely get demoted.
If you want tips on how to improve your star level, you can find some of our blogs here.
A 5-star rating is our highest rating. To get a 5-star rating, authors must pass our 5-star advancement test and either complete two perfect ratings or take our TBU exam to get an expedited rating. Once you become eligible for 5 stars, you don't have to take the test again even if you drop to a 4. Authors at the 5-star level generally have more writing opportunities as they can join more teams and access the Open Orders at their level. At this level, we generally look for mostly flawless articles, with only one or two minor mistakes for every 10,000 words.
We get quite a few authors at the 4-star levels, which is great to see! At the 4-star level, authors are eligible to join most teams and pick up most Open Orders. Clients love work at the 4-star level, so these authors can also get their hands on quite a bit of work. With these authors, we hope to see fewer than one mistake per 100 words; however, the severity of the mistake can also greatly affect your quality. Missing capitalization can result in a pretty quick demotion if it doesn't look like a simple typo!
On average, we get the most 3-star authors. As of recently, this is our lowest level for authors. These authors are eligible for a few teams and can access 3-star Open Orders. At the 3-star level, we expect authors to have basic grammar rules down, like capitalization and most punctuation.
We will no longer have any orders from clients at the 2-star level, and authors below a 3-star level will be unable to accept orders. If you are currently at the 2-star level, we have created an advancement test that will put you at 3 stars if you pass. You can find that test here.
