Jukebox

exhibition/installation of new work by T.J. Ahearn- Opening night performance/music by DJ Yard 7-10pm ++ catalogue with text by Gean Moreno

This installation will consist of approximately 50 new collages which have be created on the back of vintage 60's and 70's LP sleeves. The collages made from layered imagery hand cut from mainstream magazines (published over the past 40 years) will be displayed together with assorted other record albums from the past, to simulate the ambiance of a used record store. A turntable and speakers in the space will allow viewers to select albums and play them, in order to experience the music that inspired the various collages-- created as visual intrepretations of specific songs.

The music spanning the Sixties and Seventies represents a dynamic shift in the cultural strata of western civilization and beyond. Rock 'n Roll the prevailing musical genre signifying that era remains embedded in our contemporary society -- to the point of banality as it is often co-opted for TV adverstising and mass media. The evocative, imaginary scenes in the works in this show are ignited by the spark of the music's intent and flavor-- reflections on concepts of Utopianism, sexual liberation, spirituality, ecology, war resistance and other themes that continue to be relevant today.

The opening reception will feature live spinning by famed DJ Yard!!!
