작품설명

부유하는 흔적(Drifting Traces)는 공기 흐름에 반응하는 조명 설치작품 ‘Flicker Type A’와 수집된 데이터를 언어모델로 분석하는 영상 작품 ‘Tracereading’를 통해, 흔적 속에 감추어진 맥락을 포착하고, 기류 변화라는 상호작용을 소통의 형태로 해석한다. 작품은 흔적을 의도적으로 구현하는 조명과 데이터의 토큰으로부터 맥락을 포착하는 LLM을 통해 보이지 않는 기류 흔적을 읽어낼 수 있는 복합적인 단서를 제시한다. 나아가 작가는 직접 창작한 SF 소설을 통해 작품을 행성과의 소통의 맥락으로 확장한다. 작품은 과거, 현재, 미래가 뒤얽힌 흔적을 추적하며 환경 변화를 이해하는 과정을 담아내고, 관객들에게 공기를 매개로 행성과 소통할 가능성을 탐구하게 한다.

DESCRIPTION

Through his lighting installation ‘Flicker Type A,’ which responds to subtle air currents, and video work ‘Tracereading,’ which analyzes collected data using language models, Sungbaek Kim captures hidden contexts within traces and interprets airflow changes as a form of communication. The works present complex clues for reading invisible traces of air currents through lighting that intentionally embody traces and LLMs that capture context from tokens of data. Furthermore, he extends the work into the context of communication with planets through his own Sci-Fi novel. The works capture the process of understanding environmental change while tracing intertwined traces of past, present, and future, inviting audiences to explore the possibility of communicating with planets through air as a medium.
