폴리머라이트 : 인류세의 보석

작품설명

본 작업은 사변적 전시로써, 미래에 플라스틱이 암석을 대체하고 보석으로 발굴되는 가상의 시대를 다룬다. 인류세를 거치면서 지구를 뒤덮은 플라스틱이 새로운 지층을 형성하고 값비싼 보석으로 등장한다면 어떨까? 특히 코로나 바이러스는 플라스틱 보석의 생성을 폭발적으로 증가시킬 것이다.

국내 주택가에서 플라스틱 쓰레기를 수집하고 3D 스캔, 3D 프린트, 프로젝션 맵핑 등의 기술적 요소를 통해 가상의 플라스틱 보석을 제작 및 표현한다. 현대 시대상을 반영하는 데이터를 활용한 페이크 다큐멘터리와 함께 허구의 전시로서의 사변적 공간을 구성한다. 관객은 현재의 환경파괴가 미래의 사치재로 소비되는 역설적인 시대적 공간에 존재하게 된다. 이를 통해 현재의 플라스틱 배출이 예상을 뛰어넘어 미래에 미칠 영향에 대해 상상해본다.

Description

This work is a speculative exhibition, that deals with the hypothetical era where plastic replaces rocks and is excavated as jewels in the future. What if plastic infested the Earth throughout the Anthropocene forming a new stratum and appearing as expensive jewels? In particular, COVID-19 will increase the formation of plastic gems drastically.

The artist collected plastic waste from residential areas in Korea to create and express imaginary plastic gems through technical methods such as 3D scanning, 3D printing and projection mapping. A speculative space as a fictional exhibition with fake documentary videos through the use of data that reflects the contemporary era. The audience exists in an ironic historical space, where people consume the current environmental destruction as a luxury in the future. This allows us to imagine the impact of current plastic emissions on the future beyond our expectations
