U of O women win Indoor title

Oregon Ducks women roll to highest-scoring victory in NCAA Indoor Championships history

It wasn't supposed to be close, and it wasn't.

The Oregon Ducks rode victories from Hannah Cunliffe in the 60 meters, Ariana Washington in 200, Sasha Wallace in the 60 hurdles and Raevyn Rogers in the 800 to the women's team title Saturday in the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.

The Ducks piled up 84 points in Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium in College Station, Texas.

They destroyed the Division I indoor record for women's team points Texas had held since 1988 by with 71. It's the UO women's seventh NCAA Indoor title in the past eight seasons.

As Washington said in a trackside interview with ESPN: "We came. We saw. We conquered."

Hanna Cunliffe, who set the college record in the 60 this season, overcame a slow start with a hard close to pass Kentucky's Javianne Oliver in the final few steps to win the short sprint in 7.14. Washington finished third and Oregon's Deajah Stevens was fifth.

In all, the Ducks collected 20 team points from the 60, which jump-started the day.

It was Washington's turn to win the 200. The 2016 Olympian crossed in 22.42, just ahead of Cunliffe, second in 22.53.

Wallace started slowly in the 60 hurdles, but was smooth once she got going, and accelerated after clearing the last hurdle to win in 7.90. Teammate Alaysha Johnson was eighth.

Rogers upped her NCAA win streak to four by running away with the 800 in 2:01.09. Second-place Hanna Green of Virginia Tech was more than second behind. Rogers has won the last two NCAA indoor and last two outdoor NCAA outdoor 800 finals.
