TOP 20 SINGLE PERFORMANCES OF THE 2016 OLYMPIC GAMES

August 22, 2016

Wayde van Niekerk (400m) and Anita Włodarczyk (Hammer Throw) lead the Top-20 male and female single performances list respectively of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, published by All-Athletics.com.

The lists were calculated according to the rules of the All-Athletics.com Overall Rankings.

South Africa's miracle man Wayde van Niekerk not only won the Olympic gold after his World title from last year but broke Michael Johnson's 'unbreakable' 400m world record. No wonder his incredible performance was the best of the best in Rio.

In the men's list van Niekerk is followed by the Jamaican 4x100m realy team which was full of stars. Local hero the Brazilian pole vaulter Thiago Braz managed to beat the wonderful Renaud Lavillenie and is third in the list.

The number one superstar of athletics Usain Bolt's 100m performance is the next in the list followed by the huge Shot put mark of Ryan Crouser.

King of the two-lap distance David Rudisha ruled the 800m again and his performance is sixth in this special list, just ahead of Usain Bolt's 200m. The Top10 is completed by Christian Taylor, Ashton Eaton and Derek Drouin.

Interesting to notice that besides two Africans the top-10 consists of performances achieved by Athletes from Americas.

We could witness two magnificent world records in the women's events. In fact both should be listed as number 1, but Anita Włodarczyk's Hammer Throw world record is slightly ahead of Almaz Ayana's world 10000m record. Indeed both are quite incredible achievements!

For those who are not really familiar with Hammer Throw results: Włodarczyk's mark is nearly 3 metres better than the all-time 2nd best hammer thrower's PB. She won the Gold medal in Rio by beating the silver medallist by 5 and a half metres and was ahead of the bronze medallist by almost 8 metres!

Meanwhile Ayana broke a 23-year-old world 10000m record by 14 seconds and was way ahead of the field in a super 10000m race.

These two astonishing world record performances are followed by the US 4x100m relay team's world all-time 2nd best mark. What if they had a better lane draw...

Elaine Thompson's golden sprint performances come next in the list with the 100m result marginally better. Then another all-time 2nd best result is listed in 6th, Ruth Jebet just missed out the world record in the 3000m steeplechase.

Two field event Athletes share the 7th spot, Sandra Perković (Discus Throw) and Tianna Bartoletta (Long Jump) are listed ahead of Caster Semenya (800m) while Nafissatou Thiam's Heptathlon gold medal performance completes the women's Top-10.
