Hello, my name is Stephanie Brown. I am a mother, daughter, friend, and student. I have a compassionate heart with a love for learning. I enjoy helping others and being a part of their learning journey. I do my best to learn from my mistakes as I believe they are vital to our own growth and the expansion of knowledge and skillsets.
Currently, my career interests lie in Academic Librarianship, more specifically in public service, community collaboration and outreach, and leadership and administration.
I began my career in academic libraries as a temporary hire to break down shelving to prepare for a renovation. I then started working as an hourly employee helping prepare collections to be moved to an offsite storage facility, later accessioning materials into the storage facility to determine placement in the warehouse. After a year, I was hired full-time to work at the service desk where I interacted with patrons, processed materials, and aided with research and directional questions. Soon after I was promoted to supervisor of the Multimedia department handling collection development, overseeing employees, creating workflows, maintaining the department, and collaborating with faculty outside of my department.
It was my work in academic libraries that led me to discover my passion for librarianship and encouraged me to take the next step in my learning journey. That and several recommendations from supervisors and peers at the institution I currently work. With a background in education, I found that librarianship tied in perfectly with the outcomes and goals I wished to achieve in life.
In my e-portfolio, you will find several examples of my work throughout the program, providing a visual representation of my growth and learning as I journeyed through each course. You will also find my professional philosophy, personal learning goals, objectives, and reflections.
