Personal Learning Goals and Objectives

Goal 1: Gain an understanding of the foundation of librarianship 

A. Research the ethics, values, and foundational principles of the library and information profession

B. Gather information on the history of the profession

C. Evaluate the different types of libraries, how they relate, and how they differ. 

Goal 2: Develop cultural competence in LIS  

A. Take a range of courses to expand my viewpoint

B. Research findings and literature of the field

C. Assess and evaluate the diversity and needs of users

Goal 3: Discover and promote myself in the field of librarianship

A. Continue learning and professional development

B. Attend an ALA conference.

C. Present at a conference.

Goal 1 aligns with SLO 1. Core Knowledge and ALA Competency 1. Gateway Knowledge.

• 1A. Employ the ethics, values, and foundational principles of the library profession. 

• 1E. Identify current types of libraries (school, public, academic, special, etc.) and closely related information agencies, such as museums, archives, and galleries.

Goal 2 aligns with SLO 6. Diversity and  ALA Competency 6. Reference and User Services 

• 6E: Engage in the evaluation and assessment of programs, services, and partnerships, with input from the community being served.
