Project Overview
Rain Garden Warriors is a youth led group that developed and implemented a River Action Project (RAP) that uses natural processes to mitigate the harmful effects of rainwater runoff into our South Platte River. Our project was to build residential rain gardens in historically underrepresented neighborhoods to combat environmental racism and inequity. Rain gardens are a natural way to treat pollutants in storm water runoff with resilient native plants. Our goal was to engage with community members and fit their needs instead of imposing our ideas onto them. This would consist of educating homeowners and students on the benefits of rain gardens and offering to build them for homeowners who wanted them.
Our Audience
Students, teachers, families for the educational program. Homeowners of the GES neighborhood for construction as they are an incredibly polluted and underserved neighborhood. People who speak all languages, with a focus on inclusivity and accessibility, especially for Spanish speakers.
