Use social media and other tools to encourage people to pick up after their dogs because that waste can wash into streams and lakes and contaminate them. Conduct surveys in targeted areas to determine how big a problem pet waste is there.
Explain why dog owners should pick up after their dogs and what difference it can make to the river’s water quality aspart of a One Water perspective.
Understand how to conduct a census in an area to assess how much of a dog feces problem there is there.
Develop an engaging social media campaign to encourage picking up after dogs.
Meet and advise dog owners at a park/trail, or reach out to business and/or residential property owners adjacent to river banks about potential improvements about managing animal wate on their land.
