Fish out the carp

Reduce the populations of carp, an introduced fish species that uproots and disturbs submerged vegetation while it searches for insect larvae to eat, thereby reducing water clarity and stirring up bottom phosphorus-containing sediments, which in turn contributes to algae blooms and degrades our waterways.

After participating in this activity, you should be able to...

  • Catch carp and remove them from Colorado waterways.

  • Explain how exotic species like carp can spread and degrade waterways for other species and for human use.

  • Explain how the impacts of carp from a One Water perspective
