The most enjoyable drive today on US Route 12 in Idaho. It was as beautiful as I expected.
The route goes along Clearwater River and traces the historic Lewis and Clark Expedition trail.
In its entire 175-mile path from the Montana state line at Lolo Pass to Washington state line at Lewiston, there was hardly any straight line; it was all curves.
At a mostly constant speed of 60 mph, my car ran efficiently at almost 50 mpg.

US Route 12 also goes through Nez Perce Nation. They are the people who helped Lewis and Clark in 1805. However, just like other Native Americans, the Nez Perce were forcibly removed from their native land.
I spent a few hours at the Nez Perce National Historical Park today. Somber history.

Before checking into my hotel, I drove up to a vista point that overlooks the Lewis Clark Valley at the confluence of the Clearwater and Snake rivers. The Snake River separates two towns: Lewiston on the east, Clarkston on the west. The river also serves as the Washington-Idaho state line.
I'm staying in Clarkston on the Washington side. From the balcony of my room, I can see the Snake River.
