Welcome to Earthbound! The classic Super Nintendo RPG's walkthroughs can be found below along with side guides can be found below! Control Ness, a regular kid from the town of Onett, where an asteroid crashed in the premises. You end up near the crash site, where a mysterious butterfly-like creature says that only you can stop this threat that's coming across the world by going to each of your eight sanctuaries. Ness realizes that he is the only person who can save the world against many monsters.Â
Offense: 18
Defense: 5
Speed: 4
Guts: 7
Vitality: 5
IQ: 5
Luck: 6
Total: 50
PSI Abilities: Lifeup, Hypnosis, Rockin, Healing, Shield, Paralysis, Flash, Teleport
Ness becomes a very good character because how much EXP he will get. He's the partner you have throughout the whole game, and he also has many segments later on where you control him by himself. He also gets loads of EXP at one time. That combined with his insane HP, PP and attack stats along with some of the best PSI abilities and you have probably the best character in the game.
Poo:
Offense: 20
Defense: 18
Speed: 7
Guts: 3
Vitality: 4
IQ: 4
Luck: 3
Total: 59
PSI Abilities: Freeze, Thunder, Lifeup, Healing, Shield, Teleport, PSI Magnet, Brainshock, Starstorm
I think that Poo is so good because of his abundance of great PSI abilities. Freeze is an S tier PSI ability, Lifeup is nice if you're in a tough spot, Shield is great, and Starstorm is the best attacking PSI ability in the game. That along with his stats, (Which will still be pretty low though considering he's the last partner and leaves at many points in the game. He's able to combo great PSI abilities with Ness to make an all-around great character.
Paula:
Offense: 12
Defense: 3
Speed:8
Guts: 5
Vitality: 2
IQ: 7
Luck: 5
Total: 42
PSI Abilities: Freeze, Fire, Shield, Thunder, PSI Magnet, Offense Up, Defense Down.
Paula is an interesting character. She has good PSI abilities, mainly just Freeze. It is really nice having more than one character with freeze to attack at once, especially because Poo can spend his turn using Starstorm or just regular attacking. Her stats are the worst part because she has absolutely terrible stats. Her health is the main problem, being the main issue at the end of the game. You have to keep her alive through the final area, but almost every enemy can just one shot her.
Offense: 10
Defense: 6
Speed: 4
Guts: 5
Vitality: 3
IQ: 9
Luck: 4
Total: 41
PSI Abilities: None
Jeff is the worst character in EarthBound. I think this because of many reasons. His stats are terrible. Worse than Paula except for health. On top of that, he can't even use PSI! Yep, he never learns PSI abilities throughout the whole game. PSI Abilities are a big factor when it comes to a good partner. The only good part of him is that he can use bottle rockets, which deal large amounts of damage. But since you only have so much item space, once you're out, you're out. PP lasts for a way longer time. In the final battle, I found myself defending with Jeff. He couldn't heal anybody or anything.

EarthBound Walkthrough
During your time with EarthBound, you'll need to figure out how to face all of your powerful foes. Here's a full guide of everything you need to know.
You're first action, "Bash" is a basic fight attack. It uses your stats you calculate a varying number of how much damage you'll do. Sometimes, you'll get a critical hit, which could deal more than double of the normal attack number. "Goods" is where you can access your inventory. You can use items, which have varying affects. From healing you to dealing big damage to opponents, this is how you can see every item in your inventory. The "Auto Fight" command will put your character into the hands of the AI, which will use healing PSI and bashing when it can. It prioritizes healing. "PSI" is where you can access and use your PSI abilities. Some heal you, some defend you, some attack the enemy, some attack all enemies, and some heal you from status conditions. You have to spend your limited PP to use it. "Defend" makes the player boost their defense for the enemy's following turn. It will up your defense stat. Finally, "Run Away" will give your team a chance to run away from the battle. It will only sometimes work, and it will skip everyone's turn if it doesn't. The trick to winning battles is to abuse your opponents weakness and use PSI wisely.
EarthBound also features status conditions. These put a certain status on players after the you or the enemy performs a certain action. The status' are as follows.
Can't Concentrate - Prevents target from using PSI
Cold - Causes the target to sneeze at the start of their turn, dealing 3-5 damage to self. In overworld, loses 2 HP every 4 seconds.
Crying - Makes target less accurate except for PSI
Diamondized - Acts as if target is unconscious, but doesn't loses HP. If entire party is diamondized, a game over ensues.
Feeling Strange - The target has a chance to attack something else other than the intended target.
Homesickness - Ness has a chance to waste turns thinking about home. Can be cured by calling mom.
Mushroomized - Causes Feeling Strange in battle, makes the directions turn 90 degrees in the overworld
Nauseous - Target loses 15-25 HP every turn, in the overworld target loses 10 HP every 2 seconds. Increases the miss chance.
Poisoned - Same as Nausea, except doesn't increase the miss chance.
Paralysis - "Bash" or "Shoot" command is replaced with "Do Nothing"
Possessed - Possesses target with a Lil' Tiny Ghost, either attacks or solidifies the target during battle.
Sleeping - Target can not do anything unless wakes up.
Solidified - Makes character unable to move for one turn
Sunstroke - Loses 3-5 HP at the start of every turn and 2 HP every 4 seconds. Causes by walking in deserts.
In EarthBound, every time you level up you gain upgrades to your stats. You may be confused as to what these do, so here are what they do.
HP - How much max health you have
PP - How much max PP you have
Offense - How much damage you deal to opponents
Defense - How much damage you defend from opponents
Speed - Highest speed stat goes first in battle
Guts - How often you get a critical hit and also the chance that instead of dying, a character just drops to 1 HP
Luck - How often status ailments work on opponents. Also increases your dodge chance
Vitality - Raises the amount of HP gained after leveling up
IQ - Raises the amount of PP gained after leveling up. Also determines whether or not Jeff can repair something after sleeping.
