Prologue

The following is an in-depth guide for the Prologue of EarthBound

The first thing to do after booting up the game is name your characters. You can name them whatever you want, but here are the main, canon names and choices.

• "Please name him" - Ness

• "Name her too" - Paula

• "Name your friend" - Jeff

• "Name another Friend" - Poo

• "Name your pet" - King

• "Favorite homemade food?" - Steak

• "What's your favorite thing?" - Rockin

Ness' House

♪One Fateful Night...♪

The year is 199X and your area just got hit with a meteor. You get out of bed in your pajamas and get up to see what the deal is. Go outside of your room. You can walk around into all of the different rooms, but you don't need to. At this time, head downstairs. Talk to your mom, where she'll say that if you must leave, you have to go get dressed. You'll be taken back to your room. Now you can go outside.

Onett (Night)

♪Alien Invasion♪

Go down to the southern path and follow it up the mountain. Make sure you grab the bread roll from the present box on your way up. The police will eventually block the way to the actual meteor, so you can't get by. You'll find your neighbor, Pokey, bothering the cops to let him by. Pokey will tell you that he's trying to get by and he'll give you more information on the meteor tomorrow. For now, go back to your house and talk to your mom outside. She'll tell you to go to bed. Say yes. You'll wake up again in the middle of the night to someone knocking at the door. Go downstairs and answer the door to find Pokey saying that he's lost his brother Picky, and he's asking for your help. Talk to your mom, who tells you to go put on clothes again. When you come out of your room this time, go to your sister's room and open the present for your first weapon, the Cracked Bat. You can equip it by selecting the equip button from the menu. Go downstairs. You can talk to your sister to get a Cookie. Talk to your dog and talk to Pokey to add them to your team. Before you leave, the phone will ring and you can talk to your dad. If you call and talk to him throughout your adventure, you can save and he'll tell you certain things like how much money's in your ATM and how much EXP to your next level. Go outside. This time, you'll encounter many enemies including the Coiled Snake, Runaway Dog, and Spiteful Crow.

While attacking these enemies use your bash and then use cookies you get from Crows and Lifeup to heal if you need to. If you are in a real tough situation, you can go back to your house and talk to your mom to heal. Continue up the mountain fighting enemies. When you get back up, the blockade will be gone. Around this time, your dog will run back. Talk to Picky by the meteor and he'll join your party. Start to leave the mountain and you'll get a cut scene with Buzz Buzz which will reveal the plot. After you are done talking, he will join your party. Go back down your path and you'll get a boss battle with Starman Junior.

Buzz Buzz will put up a shield which will completely protect you. He'll also deal a ton of damage and he should be gone easily. Go to Pokey and Picky's hous and a cutscene with Buzz Buzz will trigger. Pokey's mother will kill him. Buzz Buzz will give you the Sound Stone which will record all of your memories across the world to unlock Ness' true power. (It activates automatically, you just need it in your inventory!) Go outside and day will begin for your adventure. You can go back to your house to heal and get the Photo-Man picture if you need. It's time to head to your first sanctuary!
